What’s Your Street Name?

Since we spent nine days in Naples, Florida, I became familiar with the street names. Street names can reveal the history of a town. For example, Collier Boulevard was named for Barron Collier, Sr., who was instrumental in building up Southwest Florida. Street names can define the connections between cities. I loved saying the Tamiami Trail (“tammy-ammy”), also known as U.S. 41 that links Tampa and Miami. Street names can carry warnings like the one I imagined with Rattlesnake Hammock Drive. Driving out of town on the way home, I discovered, The Lord’s Way. Now why didn’t I see that sooner?

What’s my street name? Which streets of life have left a mark on me? Who or what is the most influential in my life? Can people see that my life is linked to Jesus and the other end is in heaven? Or do people recognize warning signs that I am on the wrong road headed for destruction? Do people see The Lord’s Way in me? Or is my life simply an avenue for my own street parade? The streets we travel on reflect our destination. My prayer is that God continues to lead us home with signs of Jesus.

Matthew 7:13-14

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Isaiah 44:5

One will say, ‘I belong to the LORD’; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ and will take the name Israel.

May we find our shadow in Jesus Christ.

Psalm 17:8

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.

 Isaiah 51:16

I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand – I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’

Psalm 91:1

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Our joy is in the shadow of Jesus Christ.

Psalm 63:7

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

Part 1: Reflections of Florida

May we know who we are in Jesus Christ. May we rejoice for who we have become in Him.

1 Corinthians 13:12

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

May we anticipate the fullness of who we are meant to be in Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:18

And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

May we reflect Christ despite the shadows of this world.

Proverbs 27:19

As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.
